Jeff's Playing Tips

HITTING A FASTBALL - Timing Adjustment
Being a good hitter has more to do with timing than strength or quickness. You need your “A” look at the ball to have good timing. Only seeing the ball “OK” will not allow you to have a good timing consistently. You don’t have to be strong to hit a 95mph fastball, but you must time it correctly. When late on a fastball, move your desired point of contact closer to the pitcher.

HITTING A CURVE BALL
If the curve ball is breaking away from you, or is on the outside part of the plate, you should hit the ball to the opposite field. Only when a breaking ball is coming into your hands should you try to pull it.

WHAT WE CAN DO TO PREVENT “FLYING OPEN” & “RUSHING”
First, let's address the rushing problem. This movement must begin with taking your front leg's ankle toward your target. Along with this, we need to let our glove follow our ankle. This is not an ankle "kick" or a glove "throw". Just lead with the ankle, and set your foot down, and let the glove follow to its natural point, as long as the glove elbow is inside the throwing shoulder.
